possessive

...i stopped learning german. but here's another chart i started and never finished

sewer lid

there's a sewer lid i pass everyday on my way into work. at some point, road lines were painted over it. and at another point, the lid shifted creating an interesting pattern. so, i got bored at work and made something about it.

cards: happy accident

i started scanning in all of my rta cards the other day, and fell in love with the way these sets came out. here's just a few...there are over 200 of them...

sprechen sie deutsch

i'm in the process of learning how to speak german, using the rosetta stone discs. while i appreciate the rosetta stone tool, and see the value in the 'immersion' method of learning, there is one fundamental problem i have: there's no one to ask when i have a question!

it is actually really fun. they've certainly found a way to make the program engaging, and challenging but in a way that doesn't make you feel like a complete moron. even with the successfully manipulative bell noise you hear when you get an answer right, or the non-discouraging horn sound..it makes you want to keep going.

there is absolutely no english involved in the lessons, so you're just kind of thrown into it (hence the immersion part) and there is a lot of usually attainable 'figuring it out on your own' you have to do. i think that also adds to the feeling of accomplishment when you are able to figure it out on your own. however, the reverse is also true: when you can't figure something out, and you can't even devote it to memory enough to just get the damn answer right and move on, you get all the more discouraged. and that pisses me off. a lot.

if i don't understand why i am doing something, my brain doesn't care enough to memorize it.

to be fair though, i do remember having difficulty in english class during gradeschool and highschool. being told many times 'this is just one of those rules you have to remember, sorry.'  so, i turned to my robot-friend and found some website to help guide me. and with that text-heavy information, i made this:

it's not finished, because i lost interest. it successfully helped me out, and that was the goal. and so i've moved on. now i need to figure out 'nominatives of the possessive pronouns.' but that just makes my brain hurt.

i need to find a german.

old notes

these are drawings from an old sketch book.

this was a portrait of a college bud. she wore an aviator's hat everyday. even in the summer...

and i'd have to guess this was a self-portrait

i don't remember where i was going, but there are tons of these drawings. one of the notes reads: contour line of landscape from back seat of a moving car

321 contact

i did some contact-paper screen-printing this weekend.

first of all, i'd like to mention how difficult it is to find printing ink any more. i know for a fact they use to have it at michael's and other craft stores a few years ago. but it seems like it's been replaced with this 'ink in a spray can' version...and i can't figure out how that's comparable. all i can think is that they flooded the stores with these DIY kits a few years ago when silkscreening became popular with the masses. but then once people realized how difficult the process is, they lost interest. and now you've got idiot-proof spray can versions.

anyway, my brother has a logo he needed printing on some things.

the final prints are only about 4inches square. there was no way i was going to attempt cutting letters out of the contact paper. i'm not a lunatic.

i know they're not perfect, but that's why i love them.

introduction

i spent some time with my brother this weekend.

when i questioned him about this prop, he replied:
"ladies and gentlemen, i'd like to introduce tonight's lady speaker"

monster pizza

my brother and i did a book reading at the community center last night in cleveland heights. it was apart of the resource fair and community dinner.

i love these next pictures. the kids got really into it, and seemed to be legitimately creeped out by the ingredients.

this isn't over

i spent the last few days working on a chart, but i just found out the case settled. which kind of stinks because i liked what i had done so far.

so, i started playing around to make some more things.

...but then i got bored
